A new film noir tackles displacement in the Mission

SF Noir Films
Richard Montoya as Roberto Morales in “The Other Barrio”.";s:

San Francisco has a long-lasting love affair with film noir - the foggy nights and steep hills have provided the perfect backdrop for cynical detective like Sam Spade or slinky femme fatales.

In The Other Barrio, there’s still a cynical detective - but this film noir is set in the modern-day Mission, and tackles issues like gentrification, displacement, and the power of art. It's co-produced by photographer and film producer Lou Dematteis.

DEMATTEIS: We didn't have money to build sets, shoot on sets, but it gives more of a raw quality, gives it more of a noir quality.

The Other Barrio will be screening as part of the AIM West International Film Festival at the La Raza Community Center on October 10th.
