Going Down the Road with Woody Guthrie: A Centennial Celebration

Saturday July 14th marks the 100th birthday of legendary folk singer Woody Guthrie.  "Folk Music & Beyond" presents the 2-hour special "Going Down the Road with Woody Guthrie" produced by Nick Spitzer, with visits to friends and relatives who share tales of Woody Guthrie's trials and triumphs.  Guthrie's children, Nora and Arlo, reflect on their father's life, scholar Guy Logsdon discusses Guthrie's Dust Bowl days and Pete Seeger shares the backstory to Woody's anthem for the "down and outers."  Plus, music and memories from Ramblin' Jack Elliot, Moses Asch, Bob Dylan and so many others.   Available through 7/21/12 via KALW's Local Music Player.
