Mayor Lee put on public display over SF police reforms - San Francisco Examiner
“With beefed up security at City Hall and a room full of protesters, Mayor Ed Lee was taken to task Tuesday by members of the Board of Supervisors who sought answers for how San Francisco will address a beleaguered police department.
“The board used its regularly scheduled question time with the mayor to uncharacteristically go off-script and ask questions directly about police reform. Questions are usually submitted days in advance.”
Vote on San Francisco Immigrant Sanctuary Policy Postponed - New York Times
“Officials in famously progressive San Francisco have long sanctioned protections for people in the country illegally, going so far as to prohibit city workers from asking about a person's immigration status.
“But the deadly shooting of a woman along a popular pier last year and the arrest of a Mexican national sparked a national debate over how the city handles such criminal suspects.”
“Two Alameda County Sheriff's Deputies were charged today for their alleged role in last November's Mission District beating of Stanislav Petrov. According to a press release sent out from the Office of District Attorney George Gascón, Deputy Sheriff Luis Santamaria, a fourteen year veteran, and Deputy Sheriff Paul Wieber, a three year veteran, have both been charged with three felonies.
“‘Policing that violates our constitutional rights damages the reputation of every person that wears the uniform, and it damages the public’s perception of those that are sworn to serve.’ District Attorney George Gascón wrote in the release. ‘When officers take the law into their own hands, they undermine the moral authority of the entire criminal justice system.’”

“The newest building in Facebook's Menlo Park, Calif., headquarters sits right on San Francisco Bay. Its location offers a spectacular view, but an uncertain future.
“By the end of the century, scientists say, sea level could rise three, four, maybe even five feet, depending on how climate change plays out.
Experts: UC skirting the law by discussing sex harassment, violence matters in secret - San Jose Mercury News
“Students and open-government advocates are crying foul about the University of California regents' plan to close a meeting to the public Wednesday to discuss sexual harassment and violence on campus, an issue that has roiled the university in recent months.
“Critics say it appears the public university is twisting the state's open meeting law to shield itself from embarrassment over the growing scandal.”
“A giant sinkhole swallowed part of a busy San Francisco street Tuesday night.
“An Uber driver was in the wrong place at the wrong time, waiting for the light to change at Mission and New Montgomery streets when the incident happened. A family was inside the SUV and spoke to ABC7 News about their terrifying ordeal.
“The street will remain closed until Wednesday.”
