Warriors Win The N.B.A. Championship

Golden State Warriors End N.B.A. Title Drought With Victory Over Cavaliers // NYTimes

“Golden State celebrated its first N.B.A. championship in 40 years when the final buzzer sounded, the players forming a frantic mob at center court as silence fell over the sellout crowd. The Warriors won the final three games of this best-of-seven series, countering every move that the Cavaliers made — and all the points, rebounds and assists that LeBron James could produce.”

Gun backers argue in court for statewide concealed-carry rights // SFgate

“Firearms advocates challenged California’s principal gun-control law before a federal appeals court Tuesday, arguing for the right of any law-abiding adult to carry a concealed weapon in public.

The Second Amendment, which guarantees the right to keep and bear arms, is not a ‘home-bound right,’ attorney Paul Clement told an 11-judge panel of the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco. Some urban counties in California interpret the state law to mean, he said, that ‘the right to self-defense outside the home ... is forbidden to us almost anywhere.’”

“The case has the potential to dramatically reduce gun regulation in most of the state’s urban areas, where county sheriffs tightly limit concealed-weapons permits. State law requires residents to show “good cause,” as well as good moral character, to carry a handgun, and leaves permit issuance up to the sheriffs, who are far more likely to issue them in rural than in urban counties.”

Smart Meters Snitch on Water Wasters in a Drought // Wired

“Traditional water meters essentially provide a running tally of how much water a customer has used. Your bill is based on your current total, minus last month’s total. The utility has no idea how much water you actually use on a day-to-day basis, let alone what time of day you use the most water. But to enforce water restrictions, utilities need to know exactly that. The Long Beach Water Department is one of a small but growing number of utilities turning to electronic “smart” meters to solve the problem.”

"We utilize goats at the lab in order to keep our grasses short and reduce fire hazards," the lab posted on Facebook. "In this video the goats are being herded (wait for dog at end) to the tree laden hill just below our Blackberry Gate."
