San Francisco deputies to face charges over alleged inmate fights // SF Chronicle

“Two San Francisco sheriff’s deputies and one former deputy who were accused of forcing city jail inmates to fight each other for entertainment will be charged criminally, The Chronicle has learned.

“District Attorney George Gascón will hold a news conference Tuesday at the Hall of Justice to announce the charges against former Deputy Scott Neu and Deputies Clifford Chiba and Eugene Jones, said sources familiar with the investigation.”

California lawmakers approve revamped health insurance tax// The San Diego Union-Tribune

“California lawmakers approved a tax package Monday that preserves $1.1 billion in federal funding for the state's health care program for the poor and sends about $300 million in funding to provide services for the developmentally disabled.

“The package of three bills approved in the state Senate and Assembly are the outcome of a special legislative session Gov. Jerry Brown called last year to adjust taxes on health insurance plans.”
