Audiograph's Sound of the Week: The Alma

By using the sounds of voices, nature, industry, and music, Audiograph tells the story of where you live, and the people who live there with you.

This week, we met Alice Watts, the first mate on the Alma—a historic, flat-bottomed boat that sets sail from San Francisco’s Maritime Park to help people understand what it was like to work on the Bay. Watts has been teaching people how to sail the boat for more than 20 years.

ALICE WATTS: I came on board as a parent chaperone and never left. It’s my life, and I love it.

Ever since I started Audiograph, I’ve been really interested in how the Bay has shaped where we live. It is called the Bay Area, after all. So I went aboard the Alma to find out more.
