Solvitur Ambulando is the name of the performance piece that’s part of an artist in residency program at the Berkeley Arts Museum and Pacific Film Archive.
“It translates into it ‘is solved by walking,’” says Edward Schocker, a musician and collaborator in the group. “Just constantly moving because they have to move because of political situation or adoption or because of their choosing.”
“Naturalization papers, every positive pregnancy test I’ve ever had. I think part of this is to figure out what stories go into a book like this,” says Hom.
Hom, who was adopted, once found her self back in Korea searching for her parents, she says she’s always struggled with home. Now, a mother of three, see sees her children also questioning their surroundings.
“In Berkeley my daughter said the trees in the city they don’t talk to me. And I said, ‘Do they talk to you in the country?’ She said, ‘Yeah, maybe they don’t recognize me as someone to talk to.’”
